Verity Standen is a composer, director, performer and choir leader. Her work focuses on the human voice - gathering people together to sing, and exploring different ways that people can experience music. Verity’s shows have won awards and toured across the UK and internationally, working with local people in each place: sometimes with professional singers, sometimes with community groups that have never been involved in performance before.
Verity is coming to Stoke to develop some new ideas with community performers. She is looking for people to join a week of evening workshops - exploring music, movement and the ways that people meet one another. She wants to chat to people about their favourite songs and what makes them so exciting, to test out some games, and to try singing together. She’ll be working alongside a brilliant choreographer Laura Dannequin, who will guide the group through some gentle movement exercises. You don’t need any experience of singing or dance, just an interest in trying something new with a friendly group of people.
On Saturday 23rd September, Verity will be at The Ballroom to offer a taster workshop. This will be a chance to chat with Verity, find out about her work and what she has planned for the workshop week. She’ll also lead some fun songs for everyone to sing together.
